Gold Hill Mesa sits on the former site of the Golden Cycle Mill, which refined ores mined in Cripple Creek from the early 1900s to 1949. Portions of the development sit atop an old decant pond full of tailings leftover from that refining process. That old pond reaches 130 feet deep in places, many estimate.
