Here is hoping there is a user here that can help me. I have one of these B&D valve grinding machines. I have always wanted to get the coolant pump to work.

According to Black & Decker, it was obsoleted and no longer supported as of 1954 or so. There are no photos, no catalog pages, no references whatsoever to this machine. I can find pictures of B&D's as far back as 1938, but not this machine, and there are no references to "Van Dorn" valve grinders that show this particular machine.

Especially the little 16 valve stuff. Like Chad, I also grind and back cut as part of the valve job. The shape of the valves a lot of times are more of a "tulip" style valve. Those I don't usually back cut. Also, with thin margins, you can't grind a little extra, to gain room below the seating angle of the valve, to put a back cut.

Valve Grinding Oil. A pet peeve of mine is using transmission oil in your valve refacer instead of valve grinding oil. You should not use transmission oil to grind valves. Yes it is an oil, and yes, it is cheap. However, transmission oil will actually attack the bond that holds the grains together, decreasing the life of your abrasive dramatically.
