The original Mirror -o-Matic had a turntable that doubled as a slurry drip pan. Because of the increased effort of removing larger, heavier mirrors on this new bigger machine, I have added a stationary drip pan under the turntable. This will allow wa shing the mirror in place and attaching a drain pipe to the pan.

Gordon will know more about the math for different mirrors and different sizes. I recall for mine it was about a 70% tool diameter. The bucket Gordon used to make the tile tool was 8 15/16", 70% of 12.5" ends up at 8 3/4". Looking back at my notes I used the tile tool primarily at the 70% zone of the mirror.

Actually the more slop in a mirror grinding machine, the better. To a degree, anyway, it helps to average out the figure. The precision is in the process, not the machine. Many smaller mirrors have been made entirely by hand. Of course, the figure is checked and tested many times during the procedure.

Gordon Waite is probably one of the better mirror makers using this machine and have incorporated some of his ideas into my plan. I like the fixed-post plan vs others with eccentric drives, because it gets the heavy grinding done in an automated manner, but still give you the chance to hand-figure.
