The P-version represents the grain size of sand paper and will therefore not be discussed here. FEPA-F is used to determine the grain size of sharpening stones and is therefore relevant. Because many sharpening stones come from Japan, the JIS is still a frequently used way of determining the 'grit' of whetstones.

This chart is designed to compare millimeters, microns and inches to sieve sizes and match them to corresponding FEPA grit. Chemicals of SiC for Organic Abrasives & Sanding Sheets (GB/T2480-1996) China GB/T 2480-1996 -- Silicon carbide -- Chemical composition -- For organic abrasives and sanding sheets.
Sometimes you see that the data clearly does not coincide with the "generally accepted" grit value charts. For example, the Boride sharpening stones in the Golden Star series have two markings for FEPA-F and JIS. "J-1500" is printed on the F 800 grit value sharpening stone. No grit charts will explain how it comes J-1500 = F 800.
The defi nition of grinding Grinding is an abrasive, path-based manufacturing process for manual or automatic machining of surfaces or for cutting off parts of using minerals and bonded abra-sive grit. According to DIN 8580, it belongs to the cutting group and to the subgroup of machining with a geometrically undefi ned cutting edge. Why grinding?
The act of bonding an abrasive grain into a matrix such as glass, resin, rubber or other binder, to create grinding wheels, abrasive stones or sticks that are used to grind, cut, polish, finish or sharpen other objects. Products designed using bonded abrasives are intended to create a specific finish, function at a certain cutting speed, or offer general stock removal to meet a …
Please check the application areas, key points of grinding process, and the work conditions of your brushes. 6.Q:Does DAMI use international standard of grit size? A:DAMI uses the Chinese standard of grit size: chemical composition according to GB/T2480-1996, grit size follows GB/T2481.1-1998.
The chosen grit size affects the performance of the wheel, it determining the stock removal rate and surface finish that can be achieved. Coarser grit size enables higher material removal rate and rougher surface finishing, while a fine grit size is used for attaining a smoother surface finishing. If you require to perform lapping and polishing, please indicate them to us, we will …

As you can see in the chart, Eagle Superabrasives grit sizes range from as coarse as 60-grit to as fine as 2000-grit. On our packaging and wheel identification we designate the grit with either a D or B in front of the grit size. The D represents Diamond and B represents Borazon/CBN. Grit sizes of 500 or finer are designated as micron sizes ...
Superabrasive applications which require heavier stock removal utilize larger grit sized abrasive grains. The sizing of larger abrasive grains is also determined by international standards organizations, and the table below shows a comparison of FEPA, mesh, and micron sizing for some common larger abrasive grains.

A #1,000-grit waterstone isn't the same grit as #1,000-grit sandpaper. (Heck, #1,000-grit sandpaper in the United States isn't the same as #1,000-grit sandpaper in Europe.) The reason is that sandpaper, waterstones, oilstones, diamond stones and silicon carbide stones all use different systems to tell you how coarse or how fine the material is.

The CAMI and FEPA standards stop where the waterstone grits keep going finer. This allows us to use one standard across different stones. Lastly, the micron measurement allows for excellent on relative particle size comparison, so from that perspective, that is …
Grit Size to Micron Chart. Very fine and not used often commercially. Mainly for contest cutting or hobby cutters. Seldom needed. Seldom used. 50,000 grit is more common and used for polishing sapphire and other hard materials. This is the standard commercial polish for sapphires, although I recommend going another step to 50,000.

Our Sharpening Stone Grit Chart We decided to come up with a grit chart based on 10 levels. Since one person's "fine" and one manufacturer's "fine" may mean something completely different we established a 1 to 10 grit chart with 1 being the most coarse and 10 being the finest.
The grit size indicates the abrasive grade on the abrasive side of the paper. A higher grit number indicates a smaller abrasive grain and a finer abrasive product. A "P" in front of the grit size indicates that the product is graded in accordance with the European FEPA standard ().
