با ما تماس بگیریدGordon will know more about the math for different mirrors and different sizes. I recall for mine it was about a 70% tool diameter. The bucket Gordon used to make the tile tool was 8 15/16", 70% of 12.5" ends up at 8 3/4". Looking back at my notes I used the tile tool primarily at the 70% zone of the mirror.
I finally decided it was time to build a machine to help me grind the edges of the blanks true and round. This is my home-built edge grinding machine for grinding down my home-cast mirror blanks. Click to see the whole project. This is a 12.5 inch diameter, 1.5 inch thick, light-weight honeycomb-back telpe mirror blank that I made myself.

Questions answered. Yes, a 25 inch [0.64cm] F2.6 that is half-inch [13mm] thick can be made by an amateur telpe maker. The greatest challenge by far is the extreme amount of parabolization required. Astigmatism and good mirror cell support are solvable issues.

Re: Building a fixed post mirror grinding machine. I I had a nice piece of 3/4" stainless dowel that was begging to be used. So I bought a cheap pillow block to provide the locator for the metal dowel, and then drilled the overarm to fit. These pillow blocks are $8 and come complete with a locking collar - great deal.
Mirrors can only be made with Special Precision Equipment in Expensive Factories or Labs; Not True! Telpe mirrors can be made in your kitchen, basement or garage with nothing more than the mirror blank and a second piece of glass (called the tool) to rub the mirror against with an abrasive grit and water slurry.
Diamond generator for hogging out mirrors - the blue is the angled cutter: Primary Mirror. The primary mirror at f/3 required a lot of glass to be removed to reach the correct depth. Even with a grinding machine this is laborious to say the least. To get over this problem Brian built a diamond generator. This can hog out deep mirrors in half an ...
Mirror-o-Matic was designed to be a very low cost astronomical mirror grinding, polishing and figuring machine. Its attributes are: 1. It can be built for somewhere between $200 and $400. 2. It is constructed of hardware store items and it needs no machined parts. 3. It is constructed primarily of 3/4 inch plywood and has few close tolerances. 4.
Consider the production of the massive yet highly accurate mirrors needed for the one of a kind telpe. The process is happening far beneath the University of Arizona football field at the Richard F. Caris Mirror Lab where six of the world's largest mirrors are under construction using the world's purest glass, within a giant spinning oven.
Grinding the secondary is just like grinding any other optic except in minature. I ground the secondary with the workstand and worked the tool on top just like I would grind a larger mirror. This optic is small enough that a lens grinding machine could work well.
On the opposite, a shallow mirror (e.g. F/D = 8) will be performing very well on planets and the moon. The theory behind grinding is that you can remove glass as long as you use a material with a higher hardness. Telpe makers use silicon carbide powders (a.k.a. carborundum) for this task. It is cheap and comes in various size (can range ...
Mirror-O-Matic grinding machine. When I decided in 2009 after a ten-year break to get into mirror making again, it quickly became clear to me that I would need to construct machine, as hand grinding big mirrors is not something very beneficial for the hands of a musician.
Currently manufacturing a 16″ diameter 1″ thick plate glass f3.88 Newtonian telpe mirror. Doing this with my new fixed post grinding machine built this summer. Work is progressing well, and very efficient.

MIRROR GRINDING MACHINE. I made my first mirror grinding and polishing machine over thirty years ago. It used the working principle of the machine illustrated at "A" Fig.3, Page 163, "Amateur Telpe Making" Book 1. A bowl which rotated was fitted to the spindle. I also built another machine of the same type.
In addition, a great deal of money will be saved: a finished 24" scope will set you back $7,000; grinding your own mirror and building the mount yourself will cost you $2,000. Amateurs have made mirrors up to 41" by hand. A grinding machine relieves the labor, but is not necessary. A 24" is the largest you can comfortably do solo.

A good starter size is the 150 mm (6") mirror. A 200mm (8") will also work. Most ATM books and websites recommend a Pyrex® mirror blank, but in my opinion, annealed plate glass is better for this first, "learn and practice" mirror. It is cheaper, it is softer and grinds faster, needing less abrasives and with these small sizes, the low expansion glass like Pyrex has no practical …

Basically there are two types of grinding/polishing machine. The 'traditional' type which involves the mirror rotating at a relatively slow speed, a few rpm for a big mirror (16-20 inches) with the tool moving across the mirror, from side to side, at a higher rpm depending on the size of the mirror and/or tool.

Mirror-o-Matic and fixed position tool grinding - posted in ATM, Optics and DIY Forum: I plan on using a Mirror-o-Matic type grinding machine soon. The fixed position technique Mark Cowan uses is one I’m very interested in. Mark has spoken about this to me and on this forum, as recently as today in the thread “Grinding my 18 f/6†.
Grinding it down.. to the wrong specifications. Grinding it down very accurately to the wrong specifications. Black paint had chipped off a screw in the focal testing device, exposing the shiny metal, and they were focusing on that instead of the intended point light source. It was still focusing very accurately, just slightly off axis.
Thin Telpe Mirrors . Abridged from an article appearing in Telpe Making #12 Provided: Courtesy of Astronomy Magazine Article's Author: Bob Kestner . Part I - Grinding . For many years, amateur astronomers and telpe makers thought it essential that glass for telpe primary mirrors be at least one-sixth as thick as its diameter.
I borrowed a few ideas from the Mirror-O-Matic mirror grinding machine, particularly how to mount the turntable on top of the pulley. Anyone building machinery for cold-working glass should have a look at the MOM web site and plans. There are lots of good ideas there. The large wood circle will become the base of the turntable.
(3) A homemade telpe mirror can be made with more accuracy and smoothness than the mass-produced, commercial mirrors available today. Unfortunately, the cost of mirror grinding kits and pyrex blanks has increased significantly in recent years to the point where any savings from making a mirror versus buying one are minimal at best.
